LA Riots

Parellel Project

This is my final project for the year. This project reflects an event that happened sometime in the past and I know you are wondering, "What does this represent?". Im glad you asked, because this is supposed to represent the LA Riots. The people are candles and and this image shows the police brutality inflicted upon Rodney King (bottom) simultaneously with the severe beating of Reginald Denny (top) which was a climatic point in the beginning part of the LA Riots. Being candles, they start fires as the riots "heat up".
Artists Communicate through their work: 4

It communicates the issue that arose from mistreatment based on race and how violence can be contagious.

Artists create original art: 3

I originally wanted to do only a painting, but with my lack of painting skills, I thought I would make the piece literally stand out with cheaply made (though time consuming) brick buildings.

Perspective Narnia!

Do you want to build a snowman?
 Journey to Narnia

So I was hanging out in art class with my Art Gang and we were walking around the courtyard when suddenly the wall opens up and it's full of coats. And off in the distance we can see the lamppost and Aslan and all of Narnia. Me and the crew were flabbergasted by the sight.
But really, this project took a long time and I am very happy with the outcome.Unfortunately I don't have the before photo of Kimberly's amazing drawing of Tumnus but if you saw it you'd see we gave Tumnus more friends in the wardrobe than in the drawing.
The akward photo of my back.
Artists Collaborate:
Our art table collaborated all over the place with this project, bringing our imagination of Narnia to life in this perspective project. We shared ideas as we improvised and helped each other out whenever we felt like it.

Artists solve Prob's:
Like i have mentioned earlier, we did a little but of improvising but overall I would say we did really well by the details and characters we added to the Narnia setting.

Sneak peek: The next project is the parrellel project, Where our art will be reflecting an event that has happened and that had an impact on ourselves as artists and an impact on our feelings. I plan to allude to the LA Riots of the 70's (?)...

Stretch of the Truth

This project was appropriation and it was a hard one. i had to saw down a 2x4 and fix it up into the black stretching truth that it is.

Artists develop art making skills: 3

this project gave me practice with using tools and wood to create a sculpted piece, but it wasnt a skill that was absolutely new to me.

Artists take risks: 2

There was a lot of risk of messing it up but their was also plenty of room for improvising through mistakes, so overall it was not very risky. I was very unsure about carving the letters out individually versus just punching out holes and keeping the letters scrunched closely together.

Artists communicate through their work: 3

The artwork communicates how truth is very vague and challenging to get straight but also how people constantly fight to find out the truth even when it stretches out of place.

After
Before

Colorful Bubbleful

This was the time project and aside from the time it took to make, it incorporated time as an element by having bubbles be blown over a period of a week (otherwise the bubble fluid would have soaked into one big mess)

Artists create art that is original: 3

I took the splatter paint concept and used it to inspire this work. It is similar to splatter paint except it uses bubbles and the bubbles soak into rings instead of dripping down a canvas.

Artists take risks: 3

This project was more risky because I was unsure if the bubbles would have the effect that they did. they could've splattered like paint or they could've made rings like they did. Yay!!

Artists are problem solvers: 4

this project had a multitude of problems. Choosing a kind of paper that would absorb the color effectively while not wrinkling was challenging. Also I had to frequently fix the bubble containers and add soap so it could retain its bubblocity.

Jordan's Back!! (Art III)

Hello non-viewers!

I am back and i have more artsie fartsie stuff to do. Lately I have made 2 drawings and I am currently working on a project with letters.
The Getaway: by Jordan Woertman

Small World: by Jordan Woertman
This drawing and coloring is about tension and what is more tense than a bank robbery.Drawing is not my expertise so a project like this reflects how

Artists develop art making skills:
I experimented and tried something that makes me uncomfortable but i know that getting better at drawing will help me.

Artists create original art:
     old concept, new perspective.

Small World shows my "plans" to make a  sculpture of how small that world is that it fits easily into the hand of God, and off the back of Atlas.

Artists Communicate through their work:
"its a small world after all" is especially true with developments in the internet and trade; we can have access to anybody around the world at one time.

Artists develop skills:
Once again, not a pro at drawing.

Artists create original work:
Old concepts all mashed together into something new.
